Basra - At least 215 people have been killed in week-long fighting between Iraqi security forces and Shi'ite gunmen in the southern port city of Basra, an interior ministry spokesperson told AFP on Monday.

Major General Abdul Karim Khalaf said 215 people were killed, 155 wounded and 600 arrested in the fighting that erupted after Iraqi forces launched a crackdown on Shi'ite militiamen in Basra on Tuesday.
