Cahors - President Nicolas Sarkozy made a direct link on Tuesday between China beginning talks with exiled Tibetan leader the Dalai Lama and the level of French participation in the Olympic Games opening ceremony.

"It is according to the resumption of this dialogue that I will determine the conditions of our participation," he told reporters in the southwestern French town of Cahors.

Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner warned earlier that anti-China protests on Monday in Paris during the Olympic flame relay had undermined efforts by Sarkozy to promote a solution in Tibet.
