Jerusalem - Two Israeli civilians and five Palestinians, including militants and a teenage boy, were killed in Gaza border violence on Wednesday after a Palestinian commando raid into Israel.
The two Israelis, aged in their 30s, and at least two Palestinian militants were killed in a gun-battle that erupted after the Gaza militants stormed into Israel and opened fire, the Israeli army and medics said.
Another three Palestinians were killed when Israeli forces shelled a nearby house in Gaza City after the militants' assault through the Nahal Oz crossing between the Hamas-run territory and Israel, Palestinian medics said.
Another three militants, who the Israel army said it believed were fleeing the fighting, were wounded in an Israeli air strike on a vehicle in Gaza City.
"Several armed gunmen infiltrated southern Israel through the security fence in Nahal Oz, opening fire at the kibbutz and the adjoining terminal which provides Gaza with its fuel supplies," the Israel Defence Forces said.
"Two Israeli civilians were killed by the gunmen and an additional two wounded," it said. "IDF forces reached the scene and identified the gunmen. Two were killed within Israeli territory.
"Additional gunmen fled back into Gaza. Several of the gunmen were hit in an aerial strike."
Palestinian medics said an Israeli military aircraft hit a vehicle carrying Islamic Jihad militants in Gaza City, injuring three, one of them seriously, Palestinian medics said.
Shortly afterwards, Israeli shelling of a house in Gaza City killed three Palestinians, including a 15-year-old boy, and wounded another three, medics said.
Earlier on Wednesday, a gun-battle erupted before dawn in southern Gaza that left an Israeli soldier and a Hamas militant killed.
