Amstetten - An Austrian man who locked up his daughter for 24 years and fathered seven children with her, has also confessed to burning the body of one baby which died at birth, police said on Monday.
"He disposed of it in the furnace of his building," chief investigator Franz Polzer told a press conference Monday afternoon in Amstetten.
Josef Fritzl, 73, confessed on Monday to imprisoning his daughter in the cellar of his building for 24 years and fathering seven children with her. One of them, a twin, died at birth.
Elisabeth, now 42, has alleged she was drugged by her father in August 1984 and had been his prisoner ever since, giving birth to seven children in the "dungeon".
Three of them were raised by Fritzl and his wife Rosemarie, while the other three were kept in the cellar with their mother.
The case came to light Sunday after the eldest of the children was admitted to hospital with serious health problems.
Doctors looking for background information stepped up efforts to find the mother and the whole horrific story came to light when Fritzl allowed them to establish contact with his daughter.
Following Fritzl's confessions, Franz Pucher from the Lower Austrian police, told journalists: "this criminal case has by and large been solved." - Sapa-AFP
