Big donation for incest family
30/04/2008 20:35 - (SA)
Vienna - Natascha Kampusch, who was held captive by her kidnapper for more than eight years, said on Wednesday she has donated €25 000 to the woman and children at the centre of a shocking new incest case here in Austria.
"I'm making €25 000 available in immediate aid to the family members concerned," said Kampusch, who was kidnapped at the age of 10 and held by her tormentor until her dramatic escape in August 2006.
In a statement, she called for a wider donation campaign for the victims and had asked the charitable organisation SOS Mitmensch to open an account into which the money could be paid.
Even more important, Kampusch said, was long-term support for Elisabeth Fritzl, now 42, who was imprisoned and sexually abused by her father in a cramped windowless cellar for 24 years.
Seven children were born from the abuse, three of whom remained incarcerated with her, not seeing daylight or the outside world until they were released this week.
Kampusch said she was in close contact with the victims' lawyer and the authorities in Lower Austria, where the family lived, "to determine as quickly as possible where concrete help was needed".
