Berlin - Three people have been arrested and 460kg of heroin seized in an operation that involved German, Dutch and Romanian authorities, officials said Monday.
Germany's federal criminal police office said the arrests were the result of an investigation by prosecutors in Hanover. They said Dutch police arrested two people last Wednesday, one of whom was loading industrial batteries in which the drugs were hidden into a delivery van.
Dutch authorities put the street value of the drugs, which were seized in the city of Tilburg, at around $17.7m. The heroin originally came from Turkey.
Dutch authorities also found $154 000 in cash, as well as computers, documents and a loaded gun.
The two arrests in the Netherlands - of a Turkish-born man and a Dutchman - were followed on Saturday by the arrest in Bucharest of a third suspect, a Turkish man.
