UN court waits for Karadzic
24/07/2008 21:29 - (SA)
The Hague - Officials at the UN war crimes court in The Hague say they do not know when former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic will be transferred to their detention unit or when his landmark trial will begin.
Karadzic cannot be flown to The Hague until a Belgrade court has considered the appeal his lawyer says he will lodge against the extradition.
"I really can't speculate at this time because we're just waiting for the Belgrade authorities to inform us," prosecution spokesperson Olga Kavran said on Thursday about Karadzic's arrival.
Karadzic faces 11 counts, including genocide, for allegedly masterminding atrocities throughout the Bosnian war, including the Srebrenica massacre and the siege of Sarajevo.
