'AWOL' comatose woman fired

Madrid - A Spanish woman in a coma
has been fired for not turning up for work, her mother told
national television on Monday.
Sandra Tejero, 36, was dismissed from her job at a Barcelona
fish shop, where she has worked since June 2007, for repeated and
unjustified absences. She went into a coma after a traffic
accident on September 15, Monserrat Casares told Spanish state
television channel TVE.
"We're on tranquillisers because it's a pretty serious
matter seeing your daughter in intensive care and on top of it all having
to deal with lawyers and the insurance," Casares said.
The store's owners could not be reached for comment.
