Boob prize sparks outrage

Madrid - Health authorities in Spain on Wednesday expressed outrage over a raffle being organised by a nightclub in which the prize is breast enlargement surgery.

The raffle, called "Pretty Woman", is to take place at the Pacha discotheque in the Mediterranean city of Valencia on December 5. Tickets cost €20 and the prize is worth €4 500.

"A tribute to women. Buy your ticket and take part in the raffle for breast enlargement," the club said on its website.

Health Minister Bernat Soria said he has launched an investigation, adding that cosmetic surgery is regulated by health authorities.

He also expressed concern that minors would be able to participate.

The official in charge of health in the Valencia region, Lourdes Bernal, voiced her "indignation as a woman and as a health official" at the raffle, "which is an affront to the dignity of women".

She demanded the club cancel the event and make a public apology.

Bernal also said her department is considering launching an investigation and that the legal department is looking into possible disciplinary measures against the club.
