Ankara - A swarm of bees attacked a village in northwestern Turkey, landing 81 people, many of them children, in hospital, media reports said on Friday.
About 1 500 of the insects were set free when the lids of their hives opened accidentally as the vehicle transporting them took a bend in Beykoy village in Duzce province on Thursday, the daily Radikal reported.
The bees attacked children playing beside the road and swarmed into homes and shops in the village, local officials told Anatolia news agency.
A total of 81 people needed hospital treatment for stings but all were later discharged, the agency said.
