Nablus A German citizen was kidnapped from a hotel in the West Bank city of Nablus after nightfall on Thursday, a hotel worker said.

The worker, who refused to give his name, said the German, identified only as Christoph, was sitting with a group of Palestinians at the hotel when armed Palestinians entered the hotel and took him away.

No further details were immediately available.

Earlier in the day, an unidentified member of the Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades told AP that they were searching apartments for foreigners from several European countries to try to kidnap them, in a protest against drawings of the Prophet Muhammad appearing in Western newspapers.

The claim could not immediately be verified independently.
