Giuliani enters '08 race
15/02/2007 21:30 - (SA)
New York - It's official. Former New York City mayor Rudolph Giuliani is running for the White House in 2008, ending all speculation about whether the "hero" from September 11 would try to convert his popularity into political capital.
Speaking on CNN's Larry King Live on Wednesday night, Giuliani declared: "Yeah, I'm running, sure."
"When will you make an official announcement or is this it here, right now?" asked King.
"I guess you do one of these things where you do it four times or five times in a day, so I can get on your show and about five others," said Giuliani.
Giuliani joins a crowded field of Republicans and Democrats bidding for a White House that will be vacant of any incumbent contenders for the first time in decades.
Giuliani said he entered the race, after weeks of preparations, to try to make a difference. He had filed a statement of candidacy with the federal election commission more than a week ago. - Sapa-dpa
