China concedes on Sars
10/04/2003 08:16 - (SA)
Beijing - The Chinese health ministry admitted on Thursday that some Sars cases may have been contracted in Beijing, contrary to its earlier insistence that all cases in the capital were imported.
"The cases in Beijing are mainly imported cases," vice health minister Ma Xiaowei said at a press conference.
"We have got to continue investigations."
The Chinese government had previously pointedly said all patients suffering Sars in Beijing had contracted the disease overseas or elsewhere in China.
According to the latest official statistics, 22 people have been infected in Beijing and four have died.
