Sars: Russia reopens border

Beijing - Russia has reopened a major port in northeastern China's Heilongjiang province as Sars recedes in China, the worst-hit country by the pneumonia-like respiratory virus, state media said on Tuesday.
Suifenhe, the biggest border port city along the China-Russia border in the east, resumed its normal exit and entry operations on Monday, Xinhua news agency quoted officials as saying.
People crossing the border must submit to temperature checks and necessary medical inquiries, Xinhua said.
Since early May, Russia has implemented a series of strict restrictions on cross-border movements with China in a bid to fend off Sars, closing down most of its border crossings with China and Mongolia and suspending virtually all air travel to and from China. - Sapa-AFP
