18/03/2005 07:38 - (SA)
Banda Aceh - A strong aftershock measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale rattled the capital of Indonesia's tsunami-hit Aceh province on Friday but there were no casualties or damage, officials said.
The earthquake struck at 6:20 and was centered under the Indian Ocean floor 91km west of Banda Aceh, the head of Aceh's meteorology and geophysics office, Syahnan, said.
There were no reports of damage or casualties but the tremor caused some panic, especially since it lasted for almost a minute.
Aceh is still recovering from the impact of a magnitude-9.0 earthquake on December 26 that triggered deadly tsunamis. More than 126 000 people are believed dead and 93 000 missing from the disaster in Aceh.
