Tsunami ("Harbour Wave" in Japanese) refers to waves travelling across the ocean at long intervals. They are generated by ANY disturbance that displaces a large water mass from its equilibrium. Tsunamis rarely form great, towering waves, but when they do they are deadly, and can cause mass devastation and loss of life.
