News24 reaches the 1 million Facebook fan milestone

2014-09-29 11:00

News24, South Africa's largest news website, celebrated a key digital milestone after its Facebook page reached 1 million likes from its fans around the world.  Not only does News24 feature in the top five Media Facebook pages in South Africa, the page also ranks number 1 in terms of local fans, according to Social Baker.

The News24 Facebook page, created in June 2008, grows on average by 2 000 likes per day and has become an essential destination for fans to visit, and more importantly- engage. The current engagement rate on the Facebook page is sitting at 4.9%, which is a staggering 4,6% above the average engagement rate for pages of this magnitude. Generally speaking, pages with a larger fan base are becoming increasingly more difficult to engage with; which means that admins need to create better quality content in order to grow the engagement rate.

As an online news platform, it goes without saying that social media is an integral and key aspect of News24’s communication strategy and is a critical tool in keeping their audience up to date with the latest and breaking news.
