Cape Town - News24 won the main publishing award at the second annual Bookmarks Awards. The awards are held by the Online Publishers Association (OPA) to recognise talent in the digital media industry.

The Bookmarks winners
were announced at an awards party at Movida in Johannesburg on Thursday night.

News24 won the prestigious Black Pixel for Best in Show Publishing Category Award and a silver for a digital news brand in the Publishing: Integrated Campaign category.

Sport24 won the inaugural People's Choice award for Digital publishing and Fin24 won a bronze in the Publishing: Website category.

"We are delighted to receive these awards from the industry," says News24 editor Jannie Momberg.

"Major changes have been made in recent months to improve the user-experience at News24 and we are committed to develop and harness the engagement with our loyal community.

"These Bookmark awards are an indication that our efforts are being recognised by our peers," Momberg said.

OPA chairperson, Adrian Hewlett, told BizCommmunity the judges maintained the strict standards that the awards set from last year. “This is a truly global discipline and we have to be benchmarked internationally.

“The key take out of this year's Bookmarks Awards is that there is definitely not a lack of skills or talent in this country,” he said
