In just over a year the News24 BlackBerry® app has been downloaded over 300,000 times and is now used by more than 100,000 active users every month. In October, users logged more than 2 million sessions at an average of 3 minutes per session. In one month users collectively spent 6,220,041 minutes on the app (the equivalent to more than 11 years).
“We are thrilled that the BlackBerry® app has reached this milestone,” said Ronald Bach, Product Manager for News24 Mobile. “We have seen strong growth across our mobile site and apps over the last year and with the South African smartphone market growing so rapidly, we see this achievement as only the tip of the iceberg with much more to still come.
The News24 BlackBerry® app offers users seamless and simple access to News24’s content, including breaking news, sport, finance, motoring, entertainment and lifestyle news. The next update - coming out soon - will include BBM enhanced features and the ability to read and submit comments to stories
News24 is South Africa’s largest digital news brand that prides itself with being able to deliver breaking local and international news to their users across multiple platforms. It reaches over 2.5 million South Africans every month via the website www.news24.com, the mobile site, interactive television and various mobile and tablet apps.
To celebrate this milestone 24.com is running a competition where any BlackBerry® user can complete a short survey and stand the chance to win a BlackBerry® Playbook™ or a range of BlackBerry® smartphones. The competition is open from the 15th November until the 7th December. Users can go to http://bit.ly/news24BB100k for more information.
