    A Child Mourns
    The Campbell Family, Noordsig

This letter is to those responsible for the deaths and injuries and deaths of the baboons (People's Post, 19 July).

After receiving The Post my seven-year-old daughter picked up the paper and saw the picture of the baboon that had been shot in the eye with a pellet gun. Without having to read the article, she already knew what had happened to this innocent animal and she burst into tears.

I then had to sit with her for about a half an hour to explain to her why such weak, useless humans with no hearts or consideration for life would want to do this to any animal.

My daughter would like to ask those responsible why they have no heart, no love and no consideration for another creature's life?

She would also like to know why in a few years' time she will only be able to see such animals in a book and not be able to see them in nature, where they are intended to be?

At the age of seven, she can understand that animals (baboons as well as sharks) are in their natural habitat and we are the intruders, not them.

Maybe you should take a little advice from a seven-year-old and, in her own words, "Get a slap across the head, get locked in prison and become extinct yourself!".
