DEAR Spar in Valyland,
Please don't tell the Fish Hoek community that it is purely in response to consumer demand that you want to sell wine. Let's be honest - the only reason you want to sell wine is to make money.
Also please don't tell us you'll only stock "upmarket wines", because if you had a licence, you would stock whatever you like.
Valyland lies close to the locals' hearts. There are two old-age homes and two schools in the immediate area. A large number of elderly people and school children walk to the shopping centre. They will have to walk the gauntlet of the wino's that your store will attract if you sell wine, whether you like it or not.
This would endanger the elderly and children, increasing the chances of them getting mugged. I can tell you, Fish Hoek is far from dry. Every month I and other ministers in the Valley deal with alcohol abuse.
Please will you withdraw your idea for a licence and give some serious thought to and for our children and the elderly who frequent your store?
