    Improv fun for local audiences
    Nina Harvey

Cape Town's longest running show, TheatreSports, has found itself a new home at the Post Box Theatre which is now run by the IL Postino restaurant in Main Road Muizenberg.

The show has had a regular Tuesday and Thursday time-slot at the Artscape Theatre since 1993. It continues with its regular Thursday performances at this venue, but the weekly Tuesday shows have now moved to The Post Box Theatre instead.

For those of you who aren't familiar with TheatreSports, it's improvisation theatre with teams of actors competing against each other in a series of improvised games, based on wacky suggestions from the audience. The result is hilarious fun for both the actors and the audience. Daniel Evans, owner of IL Postino restaurant, is thrilled that this production has moved to venue that is more accessible to locals.

"We wish to continue contributing to the tradition of small, independent venues in the South Peninsula, but to make theatre more accessible to a wider and more diversified audience."

Daniel says he hopes to achieve this by making the venue available to a wider range of productions. "We want to attract productions from all segments of the population and steer away from dominance by 'financially safe' productions that have very high ticket prices and long runs, which make them available only to a small and relatively wealthy part of the population."

At R30 pp TheatreSports is very affordable to the community and any locals looking for an evening of entertaining, audience-friendly theatre are urged to join in the fun.

"The first show on Tuesday, 4 April was well supported beyond our expectations," says Evans, "and this looks set to become a Muizenberg entertainment institution." The show starts at 20:30 every Tuesday night. For more information or to reserve a seat call Megan 083 440 3961.
