Meet Pierrot... Pierrot Mc Clown. He has dark hair, a French accent and a big shiny red nose. He is armed with juggling balls and balloon animals and he's not afraid to use them.
For one night only, on Saturday, 3 February this world class entertainer will perform his crowd-pleasing antics for the young and young at heart at the Masque Theatre in Muizenberg.
Though these days Pierrot is well known and respected in his profession, it was not something he had imagined doing with his life.
"It just sort of fell into my lap by accident," he says.
Born in France, Pierrot originally wanted to be a professional soccer player. At the age of 17 he met a group of friends who introduced him to a different kind of ball sport ? juggling.
It required just as much skill and coordination as soccer, and would set his life on a completely different path.
After training for two years to become a professional juggler, Pierrot began to travel and along the way he met a number of people who influenced his life.
"I performed with Puddles the Clown who is very talented," says Pierrot. "I have learnt a lot from him."
Another performer Pierrot mentions is a comedian well known to Capetonians, Mark Sampson. Pierrot and Mark have developed a close friendship and have performed together on several occasions.
Now a Cape Town resident, Pierrot hopes that this show will be the first of many locally.
Plans are also in motion to take it to Grahamstown and other festivals around the country.
Pierrot points out that clown comedy is universal.
"It allows me the freedom to travel all around the world and perform for all sort of people without worrying about language barriers.
"Through facial expressions, body movements and sounds I can spread my message to everyone," he says, "and that is a message of laughter."
Pierrot Mc Clown appears at the Masque Theatre on Saturday, 3 February at the family friendly time of 17:00, performing some classic clown comedy with a few interesting twists.
Tickets cost R45 per person and can be booked through Masque Theatre Bookings on (021) 788-1898, or buy tickets at the door half-an-hour before starting time.
