    The show that simply rocks!
    Nina Harvey

At three years old, the average child hasn?t learnt how to "colour in the lines", has tried at least once to eat a bug and probably takes great pride in making a racket on their toy Casio.

But when local musician Jason Guile was three years old, he stepped out of the mould completely by learning to play the classical violin.

Since then Jason has taken great strides, traded his violin for a guitar and can now be found rocking his audiences' socks off with the hit musical show, Rock Evolution.

One of the most common threads throughout Jason's musical history has been his family.

"My father was not a professional musician, but he could literally pick up any instrument and play it."

At the early age of 12 Jason teamed up with his brother Sebastian to form his first original band called Black Rose. But while most most teenage bands where playing in their parents garages, Jason and Sebastian were out supporting some of South Africa's major artists, including The Springbok Nude Girls, Squeal, Lithium and Sugar Drive.

At the age of 16 Jason's career as a professional guitarist officially took off when he was hired by Duck Chowles to perform in his show Class of '79.

Not long after that, Jason caught the eye of Mike McCullagh, creator of such shows as '80 Something and Milestones to the Millennium, and the two teamed up on a number of shows, travelling all over South Africa and Namibia.

Now Jason teams up yet again with Mike and a highly talented cast, including his brother Sebastian on drums, for the second run of the hit rock show, Rock Evolution, currently on at Theatre @ The Pavilion.

Jason flexes his creative muscles in this production in which he not only takes on the role of lead vocals and guitar, but also as director and producer.

"We have a great team involved in this show, and the thing that people need to know is that this is not going to be some amateur cover show.

"We have been working hard for the past three months preparing and rehearsing to make sure that the end product is something great."

With a rocking line-up that includes some of the greatest hits from music legends like Elvis, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, U2, Nirvana, The Police, The Darkness and many more - Rock Evolution promises to blow you away.

It was the most successful running show at Theatre @ The Pavilion last year and with a sold out opening night, it seems that this year is going to be no different.

Rock Evolution runs at Theatre @ The Pavilion until 8 December at 20:00 nightly. Tickets cost R95 per person.

The show is preceded by a buffet dinner at Fascination Café, the restaurant in the Pavilion, starting at 18:00. A combined dinner and show ticket costs R180 per person.
