DO you think it is possible to take a trip down memory lane when you weren't even around to experience the event in the first place?

Watching the new Beatles tribute show, currently on at the Roxy Revue Bar in GrandWest, that is exactly what happened.

I was not even a twinkle in my father's eye when Beatle mania hit, but sitting back, listening to all those familiar tunes, watching images of those famed four mop-topped boys flash across the stage, this reporter was suddenly overcome by a feeling of nostalgia.

Granted, hours spent listening to my father's old records when I was a little girl could have been the cause, but the show itself draws you in and takes you right back as though you were one of those screaming girls waiting for hours in the rain to catch a glimpse of your favourite Beatle.

Watching my mother, who unlike me was actually around to experience it, I noticed a glimmer in her eye as she sang each word, only stopping to tell me, "Ooh, Paul was always my favourite."

Later she relayed a story about the night the Beatles movie Hard Day's Night opened at the local cinema.

She said the entire audience, mostly women, screamed throughout the movie as though the band were right there in the room ? herself included, of course.

Can you imagine it? Probably not, because I doubt any band before or since has had the same effect.

The tribute band, made up of Joe Recrosio, Denzil Thorne, Clive Fester, Gordon MacKay, Reg Edwards and Wayne Smith, are certainly not the Beatles, but they do a great job at taking you back in time.

The great thing is that many tribute shows find the bands trying to make each song their own, but the boys from this band clearly understand the concept of, "If it ain't broken, don't fix it."

Enjoy a range of songs from Beatles classics such as A Hard Day's Night, Penny Lane and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band to hits from each band member's subsequent solo careers such as Imagine, Band on the Run and My Sweet Lord.

If you are looking for special effects and stage glamour, keep looking, but if you are keen for an evening of great music and memories galore then don't miss this musical tribute quite simply titled: John, Paul, George and Ringo.

The show runs until 29 March at the Roxy Revue Bar at 20:00 for 20:30 nightly. Tickets cost R67 are available from Computicket. For more information phone (021) 505-7777.
