CAPE TOWN has always been a mega melting pot of mixed ideas, cultures and styles. It's what makes this city so great.
Capetonians love nothing more than to be unique and to express their creativity whenever and wherever they can.
This is evident in every corner music café and nightclub as local musicians express their creativity each night to an audience of eager listeners.
Whether it be a funky Friday night jam or mid-week melodic rock session, the people simply like to party!
Now there is a brand new place opening its doors soon to all you local music lovers.
Acoustic Cafe, opening on Friday, 4 April in Long Street, Cape Town (above the Purple Turtle), invites you to come along and enjoy some great local music.
Some of you might recall visiting Acoustic Cafe in their earlier days at their previous residence in Muizenberg.
In its time there, Acoustic played host to a number of established as well as up and coming musicians, many of whom have gone on to make a name for themselves in the business.
Essentially they offered their very own melting pot of entertainment.
"We have always welcomed all kinds of musicians," says Acoustic's co-owner, Hazel. "We don't want to confine ourselves to one kind of genre."
From rock to reggae, a wide variety of talent has crossed the Acoustic stage and this is exactly what they are hoping for again.
The new venue has brand new and improved sound equipment, a fully stocked bar and can hold up to about 250 people, so there will be ample space to get up and groove if the feeling takes you.
Friday and Saturday nights will be dedicated band nights. On Tuesdays they give the DJs a turn, alternating between reggae and drum and bass.
On Wednesday nights it's solo singers and songwriters and then, on Thursday nights, it's your turn to have a go at the mike ? even if you can't hold a tune.
That's right, Thursday nights it's karaoke time, hosted by Zoom Karaoke and extreme hypnotist Alan Marriott.
The launch party is set to be a great night out and visitors can expect to be entertained by four piece rock outfit The Hype. After more than a year of writing and rehearsing, expect more than just a tune and some lyrics. The Hype are homegrown with an international sound and ability.
The doors will open at 21:00 and the cover charge is R40.
So if you want to see what all "The Hype" is about, then why not come along and join Acoustic Cafe in their support of local music.

"We are really looking forward to bringing the spirit of Acoustic back," says Hazel.
