    Committie: committed to comedy
    Nina Harvey

Alan COMMITTIE truly is a one-man comedy committee! His latest show, "Stressed for Success", takes a look at the funny side of the stress we humans endure in our endless quest for success.

Like many of you, I knew Alan's face well after seeing him on various television shows. Earlier this year he had the audience in stitches with his quick wit as host of the Fluer de Cap Theatre awards.

So needless to say, I was eager to see what he had in store for us with this latest one-man comedy show. Coming in off the street where the cold winter air had turned my nose red, the cosy confines of the Kalk Bay Theatre were a welcome comfort.

Looking at the simple set, consisting mainly of a couch and a blue pair of slippers ? that I was rather tempted to slip into on the way in to warm my frozen toes ? I began to feel as though I was in fact sitting in Alan's lounge, listening to the eccentric host entertain his dinner guests.

Although much of the dialogue is scripted, a combination of audience participation and quick-thinking improvisation made it easy to see why Alan Committie is fast becoming a household name.

He constantly thinks on his toes and literally has an answer for everything.

No matter what the audience threw at him, he managed to twist it around and turn it into a clever joke.

From start to finish, and with a few surprise transformations ? including a visit from one of his most famous characters, Johan van der Walt ? Alan certainly made time fly.

We were all still laughing loudly when the show ended and looked with amazement at our watches when we realised that a cool two hours had passed.

With all the stress we have to deal with lately in our lives, from the petrol price to political violence, it is my opinion that we could all do with a little laughter.

So why not laugh your stress away by literally laughing at your stress.

"Stressed for Success" is currently showing at Kalk Bay Theatre, Main Road, Kalk Bay, and runs until Saturday, 5 July. Tickets cost R250 (including a three course meal), R230 (also including a three course meal) and R100 (show only). To book, phone 073 220 5430 or visit: www.kbt.co.za.
