Valyland Spar applies for licence to trade as wine grocer

VALYLAND SPAR handed in an application for a liquor licence on 9 January and residents have until 17 February to comment on the application.

Inspector Peter Middleton of the Fish Hoek Police Station says that Valyland Spar has applied for wine grocer trading.

The Spar group in South Africa launched upmarket wine boutiques around two years ago but the Valyland Spar is one of the few Spars without a wine outlet.

Inspector Middleton says all comments on the application should go to the Simon's Town Magistrate's Court, with copies sent to him. Address comments to The Clerk of the Court, Private Bag X4, Simon's Town, 7995 or fax to 786-3429. Copy to Inspector Middleton on fax 782-1457.

Inspector Middleton will submit the police's paperwork - including public comments - to the court on 10 February, while the court will forward its submission on 17 February for ultimate consideration by the Liquor Board.
