Increase in burglaries has Noordhoek concerned
    IAN BROUGHTON

A CRIME wave has swept through part of Noordhoek in the past three weeks, pushing crime levels to new heights.

According to a member of a newly-formed neighbourhood watch, Shaun Asher, about 14 incidents of housebreaking and theft have occurred in three weeks in the Homestead area. Police say that criminal activity in the area is higher than ever before.

On Thursday, the Fish Hoek Police held an operation in the area. They suspect that the same thieves could be behind the spate of crimes.

"It has been very busy in that area, mostly at night. "We assume it's the same people," says Fish Hoek Police spokesperson Peter Middleton.

Middleton says police conducted an operation in the area from about 21:00 to 04:00 on Thursday night.

"They spotted two guys at about 04:00.

"The suspects ran away but left behind a plastic bag, which we're testing for fingerprints.

"It's not guaranteed that they?re the guys."

Middleton confirmed that crime in the area has gone up significantly but could not provide figures.
