CLOVELLY COUNTRY CLUB has announced that it is to forge ahead with plans to enhance its golfing facilities, despite objections to the tennis and bowls sections being closed to make way for the new facilities.
The club held a special general meeting behind closed doors last week - and on the agenda was the closure of the tennis and bowls clubs.
Trevor Rogerson, chairperson of the Clovelly Country Club, said the matter would only be resolved in about four weeks' time.
"We're still negotiating," said Rogerson.
It is rumoured in tennis circles that one or two tennis courts couldbe retained for social tennis.
On 15 March, he announced that the tennis and bowls sections would close down. The chairpersons of these two sections have opposed the decision. However, plans for new golfing facilities were scheduled for the end of June this year.
"The phenomenal growth in golf has prompted us to evaluate our existing golf practice faculties, with the view to providing first-class practice areas for our members, coaching areas for our incumbent teaching professionals, and group tutoring and practice areas for the Clovelly Golf Development Programme," Rogerson said in a press release.
Apart from the practice areas, the clubhouse will be upgraded to cater for a new Pro Shop and additions to the car park.
"While the tennis and bowls sections of the country club will be directly affected by the imminent alterations, the club has taken cognisance of these factors and will implement plans to help mitigate the impacts on the members of those two sections," the press release stated.
