BRADLEY PARKINS, also known as "Kleinkop", has finally been caught.

The notorious Americans gangster was arrested on Thursday morning in his house in Parklands, Table View.

A special task force was set up for his arrest, led by Inspector Charl Kinnear from the Mitchell's Plain Crime Investigation Unit.

At 01:00 on Thursday morning, police cornered Parkins after he attempted to escape through a window. His wife was the only other person at home.

Kinnear said two phosphorous hand grenades were found in the roof (white phosphorous, used in the grenades, ignites in the presence of air), one unlicensed gun was found in the children's room, and two more unlicensed guns were found in the fridge. Parkins was arrested in connection with two murders in Athlone: one of Donovan Cupido in February, ("Man killed in suspected gang murder" People's Post, Tuesday, 26 February) and the other of Constable Ernestine Veroni in April, ("Two young women killed" People's Post, Tuesday, 29 April). He was also arrested in connection with two attempted murders in Mitchell's Plain ? one in September 2007 and one in November 2007.

On arrest, Parkins mentioned a number of robberies that police know nothing of. Police urge anyone who laid charges against him, or who took out dockets at the police station against him, to contact Inspector Charl Kinnear on 082 777 8146.

Parkins appeared in Athlone Court on Monday, 2 June, where bail was denied. A large crowd gathered outside the court, with some people wearing bandannas and sweaters featuring the American flag. One man who came to the trial was arrested as a suspect in connection with a separate murder. Police could not offer any further information on his arrest. Parkins's next court appearance will be on Friday, 6 May.
