THE Rondevlei Subcouncil up until 30 April spent about 50% of its ward allocation's capital expenditure budget for the 2007-2008 financial year.
R1,8 million was budgeted for 36 projects in the subcouncil; as at the end of April, R895 060 was reflected as having been spent on projects. The current financial year ends at the end of June. Basil Lee, chairperson of the Rondevlei Subcouncil, says that the funds not spent on capital projects will roll over to the 2008-2009 financial year.
Ward 63 spent 51% of its capital expenditure budget. Of the R20 000 allocated to install a joy wheel and gravel surface at the Theal and Ayelsbury Road Park in Wetton, R19 247 had been spent as at 30 April.
The full R90 000 allocated for the proposed surfacing of the verge in Humby Road in Ferness Estate in Ottery had been spent.
In ward 65, 94,3% of the allocated capital expenditure had been spent as at 30 April.
Two projects in this ward had 100% expenditure on their allocation. Projects entailing the lowering of kerbs in Fifth Avenue and Lake Road, Fifth Avenue and Zeekoe Road, and Fifth Avenue and First Road were each allocated R6 000, with each using R5 263.
Ward 66 was allocated R200 000 to create parking facilities at Hoosain Parker Street in Parkwood, but as at 30 April funds had not been spent.
George March, ward councillor for the area, explains that the city official who was working on the project is no longer doing so, but that administration of this project has already started. "The project, as well as the funding, will roll over to the 2008-2009 financial year. We will not lose the funds."
Ward 67 had spent 43,8% of its budget as at 30 April. Of the R20 000 allocated to install fencing around the stoep at Home Morea in Lotus Ri?ver, nothing had been spent as at 30 April. The same applies to R80 000 allocated for the continued construction of a vibracrete wall in Walton Road, Retreat.
However, R60 152 of the allocated R62 000 to install play equipment in the ward had been spent as at 30 April.
Ward 72 spent 79,2% of funds allocated.
R7 024 of the R10 000 allocated to install a walkway along the Mocke River had been spent as at 30 April. Of the R50 000 allocated for the construction of the kerb, channel and footway in Orrellaan, Retreat, R43 860 had been spent as at 30 April.
R12 123 of the R12 150 allocated to install wooden bollards in Princessvlei Road from the corner of Leo Road to Gull Road in Southfield had been spent as at 30 April.
In ward 80, only 14,6% of the total allocated capital funds had been spent as at 30 April.
R250 000 - allocated for extensions to a structure at the Multi-purpose Centre at Browns Farm in Philippi - remained unspent as at 30 April.
But R43 839 of the R50 000 allocated for the upgrade of equipment at Dyamela Park in Browns Farm had been spent as at 30 April.
