    Dogs declared Good Citizens

THIRTEEN dogs from the Sun Valley Dog Training Club recently passed the Canine Good Citizen Test at the Kennel Association show in Constantia.

A Canine Good Citizen is a friendly, well behaved dog whose owner can take it almost anywhere without risk or bother to others, says trainer Jan Meyer. It is a dog who behaves well in a crowd, has good manners when guests visit, is reliable around children, and who does not lunge, bark at, or threaten other dogs or passers-by. A certificate and rosette from the Kennel Union of Southern Africa (KUSA) are awarded to dogs that are trained and are reliable family members.

The following local dogs passed the test: Jessie (Ann Dormehl), Garcon (Monika Siebolt-Berry), Max (Kim Selvan), Rex (Gabrielle Fouche), Baloo (Sabine Smith), Rupert and She (Cheryl Monson), Flash (Brian Hayter), Toby (Dot Bent), Samuel (Christine Dias), Shelly (Maureen Rawlins), Rocs (Karen Schreider), Kazak (Di van der Merwe).

Classes are held on Thursdays and Saturdays and dogs obtained from TEARS get free lessons for one month. For more information, phone Jan Meyer on 786-1165.
