Breath of fresh air and a good laugh
    Gordon Mathers - Lakeside

Last Tuesday, I was invited by some friends to go and see some theatre in Muizenberg. Relieved that I would not have to drive to town (I stay in Lakeside), I agreed with some trepidation.

I dearly wanted to see my friends, but the thought of seeing some small production in Muizenberg did fill me with some horror.

Basically, as I am not a theatre buff, most of it goes over my head and I find it all a bit tiresome.

After an excellent dinner at the Il Postino restaurant, we were ushered in to see Theatresports.

Was I in for a surprise!

In my life I have never seen anything like it. Right there, with no preparation, the actors made up some of the most entertaining theatre I have ever seen.

Before every scene, they asked the audience for suggestions, like a place, or TV style. They even asked for a made-up newspaper headline, and then they base the whole skit, on what the audience gave them. Unbelievable!

It was very hard to believe that it really was made up on the spot, as these actors think so fast and laterally. Between the tears of laughter (mine and the rest of the audience's), I kept asking myself how could it be possible that this was not rehearsed?

I would like to send a special thank you to the actors and actresses of Theatresports. You have inspired me. With your enthusiasm, sense of humour and professionalism, you have brought a breath of fresh air to our musty Muizenberg.

If laughter is "the best medicine", then you all have honourary medical PhD's in my books.

Also well done to the management of the Post Box Theatre. You have landed yourselves an institution in the making.

I will definitely be back, with friends, again and again. It is also something that everybody in our community should know about, so they too can get a chance to laugh hysterically and be amazed.
