    Two that didn't get away
    Brian gaffney

A recreational angler whose previous best catches were in the 1 kg range struck it lucky when he hooked two big ones at the Wolfgat Nature Reserve on the False Bay coast.

Abdul Edross said he could not believe his good fortune when he hauled in two cob, weighing 11 kg and 12,5 kg on the evening of Friday, 26 January.

"I was speechless when I hauled in my last catch at 20:00 I caught the first fish after 18:30. My previous best catch was a 1,5kg stumpnose," Edross enthused.

"I was fishing with a 15kg strain line and I could feel that I was hauling in were whoppers.

"I took about 20 minutes to reel in each fish. I felt that the line could snap if I did things too hurriedly."

Edross, a Belhar resident and teacher, has for the past two years spent his free time hanging out with fellow recreational anglers from Athlone, the Southern Suburbs and Mitchell's Plain at the False Bay fishing spots.

    His next challenge?

"I've read that kabbeljou (cob) weighing close to 45kg have been caught at Arneston. So I am thinking of heading that way soon," said Edross.
