    Clovelly to host championship
    Chippy Wood

Clovelly Country Club is to host the 2006 Western Province Senior Amateur Golf Championship on 5 March next year. The event is for golfers over the age of 50 and played over 36 holes.

According to former club chairman Chris Goldsbury a team from Austria is likely to be in South Africa at the same time to play five Tests against South Africa.

"We are hoping to get them to play at Clovelly in the WP championships. This is not yet confirmed but we are hoping for this to happen. We are also hoping they will be able to play in the club's Over 50s First Friday of the Month competition on 3 March. This will give them some experience of the course," says Goldsbury.

"It all depends if the Austrians are in Cape Town at the right time."

Clovelly has three of their top juniors playing in the WP Junior Championships that started at Westlake yesterday and will end on Friday.

They are Cameron Gous, Mike Stott and Devon Ross. Westlake has 10 entrants. Andre De Decker (1), Mark Narrancre (2), Craig Osmond (4), Ashley Hanekom (4) and Robert Misplon (5) are their lowest handicappers. Others are? Myles Chato, Christiaan Helmbold, Neil Harnebuckle, Amy Henning and Michelle Greeff.

Monday and Tuesday were for stroke play and Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be for match play.
