FISH HOEK'S convincing 3-1 Grand Challenge hockey victory over WPCC B was 70 minutes of total commitment and a great team effort that takes the club a stride nearer to staving off relegation.
Although it was Danny Boyle with two goals and a penalty flick goal by former Springbok Wayne Denne that did the arithmetic, the slightly revised team played superbly.
Fish Hoek had made a number of changes to the team that paid off. Wayne Denne attributes the success to promoting Chris Olckers and Kyle Grant, two provincial under 16 age players from the second team.
Said Denne, "Both played really well in their first game for the first team and stood out as good potential material for the future of the club. Other changes included shifting Danny Boyle up front and moving Cuan Burton-Moore back into mid-field."
"These changes paid off and hopefully we can take this victory a step further with some good training this week and tackle Stellenbosch on the weekend."
"There are two more league matches left and the league moves into a bottom four and top four set-up. We would then play off against the bottom four. If we win the next two games we carry our accumulated points through. Then we would be in an easier position to avoid relegation than if we didn't win the next two games."
