Clovelly youngsters shape in Winter League
CLOVELLY Country Club's young golfers did well in the opening round of the WPGU Winter League series, played at the Steenberg course, to place the club in fifth position in the 21-club competition. Clovelly, on 224 gross, finished one point behind fourth-placed Royal Cape A (223) and one point ahead of neighbours Westlake (225). Simon's Town's team ended in 19th position with a gross score of 236.
The format is stroke play off scratch. Clovelly's Antonio Bruni scored 74. Fish Hoek schoolboys, Mike Stott scored 74 and Devon Ross 76. M. Chambers' 77 fell away. Westlake's G. Marais and E. Russel both scored 74 and R. Larsen 77. A. De Decker's 78 fell away. Simon's Town was led by J. Skebotha on 75, followed by R. van den Bergh on 80 and A. Baba on 81. K. Atkins? 87 fell away.
