    Fish Hoek keeps Derby trophy
    Quinton Dippenaar

IN a game where emotions ran high, "controlled" by Cullen Johnson, Fish Hoek were once again victors of the Fish Hoek/Bergvliet derby.

Played at Bergvliet High School on Saturday, 13 August, the derby is an annual event that always delivers gutsy performances - and this year was not different.

In conjunction with the healthy rivalry that the two schools have shared for many a year, the u/19 1st team game now holds much greater significance.

In honour of Sean Davies and Damien Payne, the teams now play for the Sean Davies and Damien Payne Memorial Trophy. The tradition was established after a tragic car accident that happened two years ago.

The two sides fiercely contested the game, the final score being 7-0.

The only try of the game came from a brilliant team effort. Fish Hoek had a lineout five meters from the Bergvliet try line. The ball was thrown to the number four jumper, and followed up by a quick bullet-maul, with the try eventually being scored by Gustav Dippenaar, the first team captain.

Many old boys came to watch the game, and a member of Shaun Davies's family handed over the trophy to the winning team.

The trophy has never left the hands of a Fish Hoek side. At the end of the day when the sweat is washed off and the mud wiped away, we are all grateful that we were there to watch the game. The memories of these boys will be kept alive for many more years, through a game they loved, by a school they loved.
