    Sailing season heats up

THE sailing season is really heating up in the False Bay area and the next big event to look out for is the Pennypinchers Longbeach - Cape Point Race, which takes place on Sunday, 11 September.

The inaugural Pennypinchers Cape Point Race has been derived from the Bay to Bay race, run annually as a feeder race for competitors and spectator yachts wanting to be in either Hout Bay or Table Bay to take part in various events on the other side of the mountain.

The organising committee of the Baysider.com Spring Regatta 2005, in attempting to lure more yachts to the event, have decided to challenge the Hout Bay Yacht Club and Royal Cape Yacht Club racing fraternity to a race around Cape Point. To this end, Pennypinchers Longbeach have come on board as the Round Cape Point Race sponsors. False Bay Yacht Club, in acknowledgement of this sponsorship, will be sending its best possible racing teams to Hout Bay to take part in the challenge.

This race is a preamble to the False Bay Yacht Club?s Baysider.com Spring Regatta, which kicks off on 17 September. Yachts from all the clubs in the Western Cape will converge on the Hout Bay Yacht Club on Saturday, 10 September and then race from Hout Bay Yacht Club around Cape Point to False Bay Yacht Club in Simon?s Town on Sunday.

The starting time is 09:30 and the start line will be off shore in Hout Bay. The prizegiving will take place at the False Bay Yacht Club together with the Bay-sider.com Spring Regatta prize-giving.
