A magnificent 138 not-out by Chris Lyons saw Fish Hoek post a big first innings total that was enough to beat Kuils River by an innings and 29 runs in their first division fixtures, played over the last two weekends.
At one stage, they were on a precarious 68/6 until Lyons took charge, with vital partnerships of 52 with Rory O'Brien (29) and 87 with Steve Howells (27) allowing Fish Hoek to end on 248/8.
Lyons' 138 came off 147 balls and included 14 fours. A good all-round effort from the bowlers had Kuils River reeling (Snowball 2 / 22 , Bekker 2/ 6 and Lever 2/1) and they were skittled for 118. They fared no better in the second innings.
Skipper Grant Snowball got the breakthrough and took 4/23b, and assisted by Neil McLellan, Kuils River were all-out for 101, giving Fish Hoek victory by an innings and 29 runs. This win leaves them unbeaten in the league.
Graham Conway, taking six wickets in the first inning and two in the second, capped an excellent all-round performance by scoring 52 runs for the second X1.
Good first innings knocks by Wessel Olwagen (68) and Dennis Bowditch (63) and in the second by Conway and Bowditch again (42) were not enough. Despite all efforts, they lost an exciting match by four runs. Good performances were posted against Saints by Andre Marais and Richard Lindsay for the third team in their drawn match. Marais took 4/35 and Jethro Coon 3/26 with Lindsay (66) and Harvey (44 no) in the runs.
