Time for the Red Hill classic

Fish Hoek Athletics Club will be hosting the Red Hill Classic and Marathon road races on Saturday, 28 January.

The Red Hill race is one of the oldest and most scenic races on the local running calendar. The races take in the breath-taking vistas from the top of Slangkop Pass, along the seafront between Misty Cliffs and Scarborough, and from the crest of Red Hill over Simon's Town and False Bay.

Athletes have a choice between the 37 km classic race (800 metres longer this year because of minor changes to the route) and the 42,2 km marathon. The marathon serves as a qualifying event for the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon and the Comrades Marathon.

Both events start from the Fish Hoek Sports Complex (down 20th Avenue) at 06:00 and the entry fee for both races is R50 for registered athletes. Temporary licences will be available for sale to unregistered runners. Medals will be awarded to all finishers who complete the races before the five-hour cut-off.

In addition, Bay Primary School will host the Red Hill 5km Fun Run from the same venue, starting at 07:00. Fun runners and walkers of all ages are welcome and medals will be awarded to the first 650 finishers. The entrance fee is R10. Refreshments will be on sale at the finish.
