WITH the 1st X1 enjoying a rest, the 2nd had an excellent win in the main game at the club on Saturday against Ottomans.

Trailing by 12 runs on the first innings, they amassed 220/9 dec. with good batting performances from Matt Lever (45), Dennis Bowditch (32) and Bredon Wainright (27). With the opposite at 100/2 at one stage, the home team rallied well and bowled them out for 171 to win by 38 runs. Matt Lever was the star of the match.

He excelled, taking 5/38 to skittle Ottomans, giving him 10 wickets in the match (10/51) to go with his 45 runs with the bat.

The 3rd X1 drew their match vs Montrose in a close finish. Good knocks from Brian Norbury (27), Hansie Linde (23) and Richard Wood (23) enabled a declaration at 159/9 with an overall lead of 187.

Richard Wood bowled superbly, taking 4/13 to have Montrose reeling at 67/9 and clinging to a draw.

The fourths lost in an exceptionally high scoring match. They posted a creditable 249 in their 40 overs with excellent work from Edwin Heath (69), Craig Miller (49) and Brian Gleeson (36).

In reply, Helderberg smashed 250 in only 29 overs. The only performance of note in the field came from Don Helsby, the club's oldest, longest serving playing member, who took a catch and three wickets.

The 2006 Fathers and Sons Double-Wicket competition was won by Mike and Riaan van Eeden, who beat the Bowditches in the final.
