    Jason Acar

HUNDREDS of arrows flew through the skies at Protea Sports Club on Sunday as archers took out their targets with supreme accuracy.

This was the penultimate round of the 2008 Disa series and featured 15 archers who shot at targets at four distances.

Dave Mead showed the steadiest hand in the compound advanced, with a narrow victory over Marco Pellis. Mead ended with 1 375 points, with Pellis a mere four points behind with 1 371. Warren Venter was third with 1 338.

Selwyn Moskovitz was the only competitor in the experienced compound division and scored 1 323.

The recurve Disa category was dominated by Calwyn du Toit, who shot a score of 1 150 over the four distances. He was followed by Sheldon Martin who finished with 1 054 points and Francois van Eeden took third with 1 001 points.

Karen Hultzer killed her target in the recurve experienced division, scoring a total of 1 263 points. Kim Pitts came in second with 1 140 points and Mike Verity claimed third place with a total of 1 129 points.

Malcolm Todd was the only archer in the recurve advanced division and shot a solid score of 1 328 for the day. Disa pins were earned by Van Eeden (white), Pitts (black) and Du Toit (white and black).

Archers are now gearing up for the Western Province Indoor Championships, scheduled to take place next month.
