SKILL and technique earned top positions for many local horse riders at the Noordhoek Riding Association Show Jumping event in Noordhoek over the weekend of 7 June.
The graded event featured top children, junior and adult jumpers from across the Western Cape in a two day showcase. Graded events are vital for the riders as they attempt to accumulate enough points to move to a higher grade in their class.
The children's division saw an outstanding effort from young Shelley Almendro on Tashina Majestic Moon. Despite riding a miniature pony, she blitzed through the course to take victory by an astonishing 10 seconds. She topped class one and class four.
Rosie Walker fought off the competition with Captain Jack Sparrow for a third place finish in class two. Sarah Bloch took two third place finishes on Harlequin Henham Blue Sequins in class three and six.
Isabelle Stirrup on Nootjie was the final local top finisher in the children's division with a second place finish in class seven.
Jenny Mauchan on The Write Shoppe McDuncan achieved second place in class 11 and fourth place in class 13. Janine Chanarin achieve double third places on Pohlands Molecule in class 12 and 14, with Suzanne Holmes coming in just behind her for fourth place in class 12.
Candice de Villiers jumped into the top three of class 16 on Big Red for a third place finish, while Chanel Kotze achieved the same placing in class 18.
Mandy Mason was also a double top three finisher as she rode Pohlands Cappuccino to third place in class 20 and 23.
Mason continued her good form on another steed, finishing second in class 21 on board Hakahana Anjuli.
