TANGO FIRE opens in Cape Town next week and judging by ticket sales, Capetonians will not let the opportunity pass to be part of this sexy and sensual art form, which was once dubbed the bordello virus.
Tango Fire, presented by Estampas Portenas, stars 10 dancers accompanied by the band Quatrotango, as well as Diego Fama who portrays the role of poet and singer of lyrical songs. This slick production is performed to live music and consists of fusing jazz, classical and traditional South American sounds. The music has been described as being twisty, dissonant and kicky as the dance steps, and faster than seems possible, with notes chasing each other.
Dressed in high split cocktail dresses, feather boas and fishnet stockings, five couples representing the young company, Estampas Portenas, perform the tango, Argentina's gift to the dance world.
Estampas Portenas was founded in Buenos Aires in 1996 by die distinguished Argentine ballerina and choreographer, Carolina Soler. They have performed at festivals world wide and tours Australia and New Zealand regularly. Tango Fire, will be performed nightly at Artscape Opera House from Tuesday, March 21 to April 1.
