The annual Helderberg Rugby Club's Sevens Tournament will this year be held over two days, Friday 15 and Saturday, 16 February at the Charles Morkel Stadium giving players more time to display their skills and spectators more time to enjoy the spectacle.
All local clubs are invited to attend and the pool format will again be applied with the event kicking off at 18:30 on Friday evening and then restarting at 08:30 on Saturday morning with the respective finals finishing at 14:00 and 14:30.
The fact that the Stormers and the Bulls play each other at Newlands at 17:00 in a Super 14 pipe opener, has also been taken into account, so fans can enjoy and support both the Sevens and the Super 14 clash.
Dennis Immelman, the well-known local former-referee, has taken over the chairmanship of the WPRFU's Referees Society from the long serving Douglas Holwill.
Dennis will thus take over the appointment of referees for the sevens tournament, just as his predecessor, Douglas Holwill, did in the past.
In the meantime the club has extended their practice days to Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, with Mondays being optional.
All training will start from 18:30, but players who wish to put in extra time, can make arrangements with match secretary Neels du Toit on (021) 851- 6571.
Three old stalwarts of the Helderberg Rugby Club died very recently - "they will be remembered."
Oom Piet Louw, who played for the Somerset West RFC and served on this club's committee and was also part of the coaching staff for many years, died at the age of 90.
He represented Western Province from 1941 to 1944 as a forward .
He was a life member of the Somerset West RFC and subsequently also of the Helderberg RFC.
Ted Lawson, in his playing days a winger for Hamilton's RFC, moved to Somerset West in the 1970's and duly joined Strand/Somerset West where he became a valuable committee member and manager of teams.
His constant wit was a feature of his personality.
Henry Brown, well-known in the catering and food industry, ran the club kiosk at the Charles Morkel Stadium for many years.
In his playing days he represented WP junior clubs as a prop forward, while a playing member of Kraaifontein RFC and later Durbanville.
He died at the age of 49, a day before his 50th birthday.
All three will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing them.
The management and members of the Helderberg RFC wish to extend their sincere condolences to all their loved ones.
