New cycling club to hold inaugural meeting
    250108

An inaugural meeting of the recently formed cycling club in the Helderberg will be held on Monday, January 28 at 18:30 at the Methodist Church, Coronation Street, Somerset West.

The purpose of the meeting is to provide information regarding the status, the structure and mission of the club which has been formed as a result of Cycling South Africa enforcing new licensing requirements in order for cyclists to partake in major events such as the Pick 'n Pay Argus, 94.7, EP Herald and others, which means riders will have to take out a license from CSA and will thereby need to be affiliated to a club.

This led to the Wannabees social cycling group together with H2C2/Mr Price, who are well experienced on the racing side, taking the decision to amalgamate to form a new club to be known as Cycling Club Helderberg.

It will consist of two operating sections, being a social section as per the current Wannabees and the racing and schools development (primary and high schools) side.

What is very exciting is that a home for all is now on offer. Like-minded people with different abilities and goals can now enjoy cycling with a safety focus through a committee that includes representation from Law Enforcement and Traffic Control.

Group rides will be organized and controlled both for Road and MTB and longer rides will be supported by back-up vehicles.

Structured training programmes are planned for specific events such as the Argus, Double Century that can include VO2 Max testing at the Stellenbosch Sports Institute at a reduced cost.

Talented riders from the Helderberg will now have a channel to grow through the development side and possibly aspire to be part of the Mr Price Racing team and no longer have to seek clubs and teams in other areas to get exposure. Quality club kit will also be sold at real discount prices and regular communication through a regular newsletter and a blog site will keep all up to date as to what is happening.

All members as well as any interested people are invited to come and hear more and raise any queries which they may have regarding this significant development amongst the local cycling fraternity.
