Somerset West played Wynberg away this past Saturday and thanks to a poor batting display lost by 41 runs.
Jaco Castle, captain of the team in the absence of injured Craig Melvill, lost the toss and was asked to bowl.
Wynberg scored 168 all out in 43.2 overs, this after being 105/1.
A very good bowling spell in the middle of the innings, saw Wynberg's batting line-up crumble and the visitors looked to be in with a chance.
The best bowlers for Somerset West were Graeme Braybrooke, who also took a hat-trick, with 3/10 in 6 overs, Jaco Caste with 2/17 in 8 overs and Vincent Castle with 2/34 in 9 overs (including a brilliant caught and bowled).
The relatively low score which Somerset West had to chase resulted in too many batsmen playing rash wild shots, which in the end resulted in them all being bowled out for a meagre 127 runs. Shaun Dicks, with a very well played 65 runs and Matthew Knott with 21 runs, were the best of the batsmen.
Losing this one-day match put Somerset West out of a place in the final of the Western Province Cricket Association's One Day League.
The second team played Northens Goodwood in an away one-dayer and won the match in convincing style.
Goodwood scored 244/9 in 45 overs on a field the size of a match box and then Somerset West chased down the runs with seven overs to spare. A great batting display by Francois Kilian with 85 runs and Luigi Scheffers with 59 runs saw Somerset West home. Peter Baumeister also chipped in with 18 runs. Somerset West's third team played Atlantis away and lost the match by 98 runs.
Somerset West bowled first, but Atlantis batted well to score 251/3 in 45 overs.
Francois van der Vyver with 2/49 and Niall Ridge with 1/44 in 8 overs were the best of the bowlers.
Somerset West could only manage 153 all out. Top batsmen were Francois van der Vyver with 34 runs and Chris Carroll with 30.
