    Somerset West won their two-day match against Cravenby, played at Radloff Park on Saturday, with a clinical cricket display to win by an innings and 10 runs. Last week Cravenby batted first and scored 114 to which Somerset replied with 243.

    Cravenby's second innings was not that much better and they were all out for 119.

    The visitor's second innings got off to a good start with the openers scoring 79 runs.

    Medium paced swing bowler, Vince Castle, came into the attack and took two wickets in one over to take Cravenby from 79/0 to 79/2.

    Vincent's younger brother Jaco, who had earlier opened the innings, came back to bowl spin and took two more wickets to have Cravenby at 94/4 at lunch.

    After lunch captain, Craig Melvill took four wickets and Jaco two more to end Cravenby's second innings. These six wickets fell for 25 runs. The wicket takers were Jaco Castle 14-2-4-49, Vincent Castle 7-2-2-9 and Craig Melvill 11-2-4-16.

    Somerset West gained 24,825 points out of a possible 25 points from the win to move to the top of the WP 1 C log and face second placed Strandfontein in a top of the table clash at Radloff Park on Saturday.

    The second team continued their two-day game against Claremont and beat them by four wickets.

    Claremont resumed on 34/2 and took their score to 214 all out, leaving Somerset West 91 runs to win the game.

    Best bowlers were Garnet Mons 16-3-41, Popeye Visser 13-2-35, Brendan Simpson 14-1-28 and Dean Whitfield 3-1-14.

    Somerset West lost Donald Shaw for 10 runs and then Pete Baumeister for two runs.

    Young Jahn Cilliers joined opener Nicholas Moffit, who played his best innings this season. Cilliers scored 33 runs and Moffit 40 runs.

    Somerset West won the match, resulting in 23.25 points for their efforts.

    The third team continued their game against Lentegeur adding only 17 to their overnight score and giving Lentegeur a 95 run lead.

    Somerset West then bowled Lentegeur out for 33 runs giving themselves a target of 199 runs for victory. The best bowlers were Francois van der Vyfer with 8-6-13 and Nic van der Vyfer with 7-3-10.

    Sadly Somerset West were all out for only 33 runs. The best batsman was Francois van der Vyfer with 16 runs.

    The fourth team played Blue Bells at home. Skipper Nico Buckle won the toss and restricted Blue Bells to 145.

    The best bowlers were Aussie Niall Ridger with 7-4-41 and B Mentoor 5-3-3.

    After losing the two opening batsmen for 18, newcomer Schoeman Botha (13) played an exceptional innings of 52 not out, leading Somerset West to a one run victory. B Mentoor scored 33 of 34 balls.

    The fifth team played Mitchell's Plain away. John Guthrie won the toss and elected to bowl. Mitchell's Plain scored 179 all out. Skipper Guthrie with 8-3-23 and S De Wet 8-2-31 were the best bowlers.

    SWCC were 57 all out. Best batsmen were Willem Visser 26 and J Johannes with 11 not out.
